Guidelines for next lessons

Dear Students,

For previous weeks' lessons (September 3rd. & 5th.)

(1) The PPT file for 'Unit 2: Lessons 1' & '2' can be found in the 'Material Docente' section

For the following lessons (September 10th and 12th.)

(1) We will be working on both of our lessons, which will be divided into two parts, as we already know: 

(1.1) The following Tuesday and Thursday lessons  (#9 & #10) will work on both Unit 2, Lessons 3 & Unit 1, Final Unit Task

(1.1.1) Lessons 2 & 3 will be composed of 

(a) Unit 2: Lesson 3: 'Developing Ideas' [About those ideas]
(a) Lead-in: Ask a partner: Do you recycle? What do you recycle?  What are these items? Can we recycle them? Do you recycle them? (b) Academic Language & Critical Thinking: Writing support sentences. We write supporting sentences to expand and clarify an idea. (c) Reading: Read the following text about recycling. (d) Some supporting sentences are missing in the previous text. Where in the text can you put the following supporting ideas? Write the number from the text next to the corresponding sentence.

(b) Unit 1: Final Unit Task: 'Welcome to University!'
 (a) Read the Students Services Newsletter and answer the questions about the text. (b) Listen to two conversations and answer the questions. (c) Writing. Use the information from the reading and listening to make recommendations to the four students. (i) Listen to the conversations again and take notes about the students’ problems and
worries. (ii) Read the Student Services Newsletter again and think about recommendations you can make for each student. (iii) Write one or two sentences giving recommendations for each student. Include reasons for your recommendation.

(a) Speaking: comparing past experiences, (b) Academic Language: Writing (connecting ideas), (c) Reading: identifying connectors within sentences, (d) Final Task: Summarizing past events

(b) Unit 2: Lesson 2: 'Developing Ideas'  [Planning for the next class]
(a) Speaking: How accurate are these schedule arrangements for next week? Are they similar to yours? (b) Academic Language: Providing examples; (c)  Listening: Matching definitions and concepts related to writing assignments, among other activities; (d) Final Lesson Task: Creating a study plan

(a) Lead-in: Expectations at university, (b) Listening: which class are these students talking about?, (c) Language Focus: Read the transcript and answer some questions (Past, Future), (d) Speaking: Talking about your classes at university, (e) Reading: Students' Services Workshops, (f) Writing: Fill in the form to register for the workshop you want to attend, (g) Reading: Which workshop should these students attend and why?
